The Glass Knife is a collaborative exhibition by Stephen Bradley and Katherine Marmor.
It incorporates curated materials from UMBC’s special collections archive of Keith Porters research and biographical materials. Keith Porter pioneered the use of electron microscopy and these high-resolution images of individual cells provided new knowledge and understanding about the internal structure and organization of cells. His research propelled the field of structural biology. The two artists explore the following question through their juxtaposition of archival material with the art created specifically for this exhibit:
“What role does aesthetics play in scientific experimentation?”
